Bluebird Dreams of Snow is a visualization of Beethoven's opus 33 bagatelles number 4, which is sometimes called a parody of a musette.
A musette is an 18th century French type of dance music meant to evoke the innocent pleasures of the countryside, and I felt that play of innocence in Beethoven's music here as well. In this case I see it more as "innocence dreaming of experience."
It's like we're in a little girl's pink bedroom, her blonde hair neatly braided and tied with red ribbon as she goes to sleep in her lace covered bed. But she dreams she's a mountain bluebird opening a window to a snowstorm. She wants to fly out and experience the drama outside. It's exciting, but scary, and she's not sure yet which emotion will win out.
This collage uses patterned paper, colored pencil, white ink, gold acrylic, and real lace that wraps around the bottom.
The lace is more or less visible depending on the lighting and the angle from which the image is viewed. If you're in the Seattle area I highly recommend looking at this piece in person if you're interested in purchasing it.
Original collage with lace on canvas with the sides painted metallic gold. Measures 12x12 inches and .5 inches deep. Varnished to provide archival UV protection.
