A whooping crane is just taking off to cross the wide emptiness before him. He comes from a place of sunlit possibility, and his destination appears potentially much darker. Does he know this? Is he taking a conscious risk, or is this just an illusion? Maybe the crane is flying at sunset, leaving a world that he knows will only continue to grow darker for a world where the skies are blue and only a little cloudy.
I felt a strange hope drawing this, like I was taking flight to go on a great adventure. I didn’t know what the adventure was yet, but I hoped my future would be one where I was no longer afraid of exploring my creativity.
This is a fine art giclee print of the original drawing on archival Somerset Velvet paper, a very soft art paper. Measures 9x9 inches with a half inch border.
The original drawing is available here.
