Part of The Last Quartets art series, Hatching Rose depicts my vision of the third movement of Beethoven's last string quartet: opus 135 in F. Beethoven claimed this movement represented a moment of rest, and that is what we have here. The former rancor between squirrels and bees seems to have been put aside for a night of psychedelic dreaming.
My vision for the four collages that make up this Beethoven quartet is that bees represent artists and squirrels represent their fans. Hatching Rose shows how artists and fans need each other, we live in the same dream, we all want to live in a more beautiful and more loving world. We can all come together through dreams, drugs, or meditation. Realizing that we are all one is the ultimate trip. It is this realization that causes us to be born anew, hatched, blooming.
This canvas measures 20x20 inches with a 3/4 inch profile with sides painted in metallic gold acrylic. All patterns used in this collage were designed by me and are glued together with my original colored pencil drawings. Comes ready to hang.
