Prairie Dog Proliferation original collage on canvas

This piece presents a depiction of the 7th and last bagatelle in Beethoven's opus 33. The music is a presto in A flat major, a quirky theme with subtle and quickly changing variations, almost constant intensity broken up by some gently twinkling high notes over a pedal bass.

I saw each variation as another prairie dog raising its head in a rocky landscape where prairie dogs don't usually hang out. Those twinkly notes are a bright sun emerging to show us the ever changing faces of the people we used to be and have yet to become.

We are all a theme and variations, and given the possibility in some spiritual traditions that all of time is happening all at once, all of those selves exist right now.

How would you face off with each of them from your current vantage point?

Original collage and colored pencil drawing on canvas with the sides painted metallic gold. Measures 12x12 inches and .5 inches deep. Varnished to provide archival UV protection.
