Part of The Last Quartets art series, Teeter Totter depicts my vision of the second movement of Beethoven's last string quartet: opus 135 in F. Here the bees take revenge on the squirrels for their act of theft in the first collage. The squirrels were just trying to have some fun on their teeter totter, but everything is falling out of balance. The music of this second movement sounds very much like a delicate balancing act to me, very teeter tottery!
My vision for the four collages that make up this Beethoven quartet is that bees represent artists and squirrels represent their fans. Teeter Totter is a depiction of artists as naughty little punks. Beethoven was absolutely a punk, making fun of his audience and playing with their expectations all the time.
This canvas measures 20x20 inches with a 3/4 inch profile with sides painted in metallic gold acrylic. All patterns used in this collage were designed by me and are glued together with my original colored pencil drawings. Comes ready to hang.
