The Rescue original collage on canvas

Part of The Last Quartets art series, The Rescue depicts my vision of the fourth movement of Schubert's last string quartet: D.887 in G major. Cracked and mentally broken, the crow still feels a sense of tottering dignity. As much as she wants to give up and fall over from the exhaustion of life, her soul has grown into a mature vine that is now holding her up. Trauma still burns within her like a poison, something that will need to be danced out in a tarantella. Meanwhile, the crow has changed the way she remembers that trauma to make her life more meaningful. As much as she has softened that pain, the body always remembers how sharp it was to begin with.

My vision for the four collages that make up this Schubert quartet is a story about the pain of earthly incarnation and the ways we alchemize that pain to create a meaningful life for ourselves.

This canvas measures 20x20 inches with a 3/4 inch profile with sides painted in metallic gold acrylic. Most patterns used in this collage were designed by me along with marbled papers from 18th and 19th century books as well as flower petal infused mulberry papers. These are glued together with my original colored pencil drawings. Comes ready to hang.
